Surrounding Area

Bernisson is a seven bedroomed property that can also be split into two self contained houses. This page displays information about events, activities and sites in the surrounding area.

We are lucky enough to be surrounded by famous vineyards of the Bordeaux, Bergerac and Entre Deux Mers Appellations, as well as many beautiful Bastide towns and lovely Chateaux (including the very famous Chateau de Duras just 6 miles away from the house).

Our own lovely Bastide town Monsegur, has an array of amenities including Tabacs, Pharmacie, restaurants, bars, cafes, clothes shop, a cinema showing the latest films, and even a wonderful Chocolatier featuring hand made chocolate, ice cream and divine hot chocolate – all set in a square under arches around the magnificent Halle. There is also a small but well stocked supermarket on the outskirts of the town.

Many of the nearby towns hold weekly markets, and you can find one for every day of the week. Plus from June to September, there are also ‘Marches Nocturnes’ which are evening markets, featuring stalls ofering wonderful freshly cooked food, vineyards offering delicious wine to taste and buy and live entertainment, encouraging dancing in the streets. Not to be missed. There are also many Fetes celebrating varied events.

A 20min drive will bring you to the lovely Marina and man made supervised beach at Fontet, with huge play area, cafe and cycleways along the canal, through glorious countryside along to the River Garonne it’s a lovely place to visit. A bit further afield are the Lac de Blasimon wih dedicated beach and fishing areas in beautiful surroundings, featuring lots of picnic spots and a small cafe and in the other direction the Lac de Clarens with watersports and lots of dedicated swimming areas.

There are miles of roads to explore by foot or on a bike, meandering through little towns and alongside fields of vines and sunflowers.

Fishing and canoeing are also available on the River Dropt, Garonne and Dordogne and at the Lac de Blasimon amongst others and fishing licences can be purchased nearby.
