If you’re looking for a typical French chateaux surrounded by the gorgeous french countryside and vineyards then I couldnt recommend this place more. The location is incredibly beautiful and the hosts couldn’t have been more helpful booking excursions for us and doing a complete food shop before we had even arrived. We will definitely be back!

We’ve just returned from a wonderful holiday at Bernisson. Our large group of friends plus babies and a toddler all loved the place.
Jenny and Doug have thought of absolutely everything you need for a fun but relaxed break.
Lovely pool area, great BBQ and even trivial pursuit for a boys v girls plus wine quiz night!
We enjoyed the night market at Monsegur and ice cream on the square. Wine and chocolate tasting, chateau visits and a trip to the beach at the lake.
Worked perfectly for a big group as there’s a great mix of rooms and outdoor spaces. We want to return soon!

Our second visit to Bernisson this August and once again all three generations had a really great time. Wonderful spacious and well-appointed house; big pool with heating, large garden and superb views over the lovely countryside. Jenny and Doug continue to enhance the property and are welcoming without being intrusive – just right in our view. Lots to do on site or in the area. I suspect we’ll be back before too long!

What a wonderful time we had at Bernisson at the beginning of July. The house suited the requirements of our annual family reunion (10 adults and 3 small children + dog) perfectly. In fact the consensus was that this was the best venue ever!
The well-equipped house and grounds are so beautiful and the heated pool and games room were particularly popular. The location too is superb. We enjoyed the night markets at Monsegur and Duras and spent a few hours in the elegant city of Bordeaux.
Doug and Jenny were great hosts – nothing was too much trouble. Our celebration dinner cooked by Anna-Marie was also a great success.
Memories of balmy evenings chatting, eating and drinking on the terrace will linger on…we are scheming to return.

We have just been to stay at Bernisson for my hen weekend away with 12 friends, and we have had the BEST time.

The house is absolutely beautiful, we were all amazed! It’s really big and the rooms are decorated and furnished in a really lovely way. The kitchen was excellent for big dinner parties, with a really big long table we could all sit around.

The pool area is fantastic, it’s a real sun trap and is sheltered if there is a bit of wind. The gardens are also beautiful, there are so many places to sit out and enjoy the view and sunshine.

Jenny was a total star from the moment I got in touch, she went above and beyond – helping us organise a trip wine tasting, canoeing, a beautician, a chef to come in and cook for us one night, AND she shopped for us to save us doing it when we arrived – she couldn’t have been a better host! You made organising this trip a delight!

We thank you so much for all your help Jenny and I know there are 13 of us very keen to return!! xx

Have just spent a three night break at Bernisson with my two sisters, their husbands &, of course my husband.

We had a fabulous time – the house & grounds are lovely and the Fairbanks family are welcoming, friendly & helpful. The only thing we had no control over was the weather but it was warm enough to use the pool even though the sun was a little shy!

Also the nearby village of Monsegur was interesting and had a number of eateries to tempt us,

    Many thanks
    :-)

I don’t quite know what I can add to the fantastic reviews below, and if reading them doesn’t make you want to go and stay here, I don’t know what will!

I first discovered Bernisson last summer when searching for somewhere for 9 girls to go on a hen do in March 2014. Ever since then, I have been emailing Jen on a weekly basis with all sorts of questions and she has been absolutely incredible. Jen & Doug are the most welcoming, accommodating people we’ve ever met and nothing was ever too much trouble – she even made me some gluten free bread and quiches for our picnic one day! The house itself is just breath-taking – so beautiful, an incredible location and perfect for large groups, dinner parties and generally having a wonderful time! So well stocked in the kitchen, a gorgeous garden and pool, plenty of lovely bedrooms and beautifully decorated.

We loved every minute of our stay here on our Hen Do and have vowed that we will 100% be returning (if we’re allowed!) ;-)

The local area is gorgeous too, with a supermarket very nearby and well connected to the main roads. We went on a canoe trip, had a wonderful cookery course with Lucie and Moira who were fantastic fun – and gorgeous food of course. Jen also did a wine tasting for us at the house which was perfect too – we couldn’t have asked for more.

Jen – thank you SO much for everything, we made some lifelong memories at Bernisson and will be returning one day to make some more.

Best wishes & lots of love,
    Molly & Helen’s Hens

What a perfect place Bernisson was for a wedding! Our daughter and son-in-law wanted an informal atmosphere where friends and family could stay and holiday before and after the wedding, and where the day itself would have the feel of a picnic in the French countryside – and that’s exactly what Jenny and Doug provided.

Everyone who stayed in the house loved it and want an excuse to come back – they loved the pool, the games room, the little cinema and just the relaxing ambience. The house is big enough for a large group to live happily together and much fun was had eating together round the big table in the kitchen or barbecueing outside – and spacious enough for people to find a quiet space for themselves when they needed it.

With great local markets and shops, we had decided to cater the wedding ourselves and found the two kitchens invaluable: the big table in the large kitchen meant many hands could be chopping and arranging, while the smaller kitchen was great for storage and serving from. The barn was perfect for storing drinks before the day.

Jenny and Doug couldn’t have been kinder – or more helpful, both practically and in terms of their local knowledge. They were happy for lights and bunting to be draped through trees – in fact told us where to get the best lights – and would have been happy for us to put a marquee in the garden, had the weather demanded it – and told us where to get that too! I can’t recommend them highly enough!

We (six adults, six children aged between 4 and 18 months) stayed at Bernisson for a week at the beginning of June this year. Firstly, the website does not do the house justice. It’s absolutely gorgeous, wonderfully furnished and the grounds are just lovely. The house is amazingly well-equipped and had everything we needed including huge amounts of plastic plates, cups, cutlery for the children, quality wine glasses for us (always so nice when you’re on holiday and you’re not just supplied with a few cheap wine glasses), cooking utensils, plates, children’s games, DVDs, baby monitors, etc etc. Jenny and Doug are lovely hosts – extremely welcoming, available when needed and totally unobtrusive when not. We had a wonderful meal cooked by Lucie and served by her husband Malcolm and a wine-tasting evening arrange by Paul at La Tour de Chollet (both recommended by Jenny). We were so well catered for at the house that we barely left – the children loved running around the grounds, playing table football in the games room, swimming in the heated pool and generally enjoying their freedom and we loved the relaxed atmosphere, the well-stocked and beautiful accommodation and the beautiful views from the terrace with a glass of wine once all the children were in bed. We’ll definitely be back.

We have recently returned from a fantastic 2 week stay in Bernisson. We were a party of 14, 8 adults, 2 teenagers, 3 young children and an 11 month old. The property catered for all our requirements and more with loads of space to spread out and relax, lovely rooms and of course the lovely outside spaces. The pool is fantastic and the wee kids (and big kids!) really enjoyed the games room and the cinema. There was everything you could possibly need for a baby which is a huge plus. Jenny and Doug really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay including providing a lovely welcome pack, even doing some shopping for us for essentials as we were arriving so late. In the two weeks of our stay we hardly needed to venture away from the house as it was so lovely. All in all, our much anticipated holiday at Bernisson was a huge success and we can wholeheartedly recommend a holiday there!

  11. Andrew Oliver says:

We’ve just returned from a wonderful, long-planned week’s holiday with our whole family, 11 in all, including 5 grandchildren aged 12 to 6 months from Australia and the UK. The house was fantastic, and everything about it exceeded our expectations. We made full use of the large and beautifully maintained pool. Wherever the sun happens to be, there are tables and chairs around the garden and terraces to sit at. The view from the rear of the house across the Dropt valley is unforgettable. There are masses of toys, books and games to keep kids of all ages (even me at 76!) happy.

Jenny and Doug were helpful and welcoming hosts. They are to be congratulated on the standard of the decoration and furnishings and their clever use of colours and materials. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms beautifully fitted out. The kitchen has everything you need and more beside.

I could go on, but the previous reviews have really covered everything, including the joys of the surrounding area where there’s plenty to do and see. If you’re planning a holiday in France with family or friends, I cannot recommend Bernisson highly enough.

  12. Enright Family says:

    Everything here is just lovely!

We went on mass for a family celebration and were greeted with a huge cake and wine, a fabulous start to a fabulous week of eating, drinking, playing and pottering about the French countryside.

This house is just brilliant for the little ones. We had two one year olds with us and Jenny and Dougie have thought of everything you could possibly need and a whole lot more.

    We absolutely loved it.

  13. All the grandchildren (ranging from 19 to 10) had been asking for over a year when they could go on holiday to France again with their cousins. We all agreed this would be great fun, so the next thing was to find a house large enough to accommodate all twelve of us in an attractive part of France and at a time we could all manage. My daughter and daughter-in-law started an internet search and I had a go as well, For one reason or another we rejected all the houses we found until my daughter went on to the Owners Direct site and found Bernisson. The results were quickly flashed round the family and in no time we agreed this was the one and we had made our earliest booking ever for a summer holiday – almost 12 months ahead!

As the date of our departure approached excitement grew. On arrival we realised that the details on the Bernisson website barely did justice to the reality. The standard to which the house is furnished and equipped is a delight. The pool and, surprise surprise, the cinema(!!) were wonderful for all, but particularly the children. For me what stays in the mind is the view across the valley from the terrace at the rear of the house. I also recall those who wanted to use laptops clustered round the calm and shady front veranda as the best place for wifi reception. It was also used for lovely breakfasts as well.

The proximity to Monsegur makes household shopping easy, with the excellent Carrefour providing all one can reasonably want on holiday. The markets in Monsegur and Duras and other towns in the locality give the opportunity to buy fresh local produce and occasionally unexpected extras, such as leather goods and inexpensive jewellery, The night markets are great fun and allow you to join the local population in enjoying a communal event and a wide choice of good freshly cooked food for supper.

There are various activities available in the general area. We found an Accrobranche site (similar to Go Ape in the UK) which was enjoyed by all the children and Dads, whizzing down zip wires and climbing up trees to quite scary heights for those old enough. Another excursion was canoeing and kayaking which proved a great success.

We have spent several holidays over the years in rented houses in this part of France and there is no doubt that Bernisson is the best we have experienced. Jenny and Dougie are to be congratulated on the standard to which they have created this beautiful house in an incomparable setting. We left with extreme regret and with gratitude to both our host and hostess for their welcome on arrival and their help and information throughout our unforgettable stay.

  14. Simon Robinson & family says:

We had a fantastic week at Bernisson – 3 families in all, with 6 adults, 2 older teenagers and 5 kids under 10. The house is simply fantastic with lots of space and things to do to keep us all amused. The kids loved the games room with table tennis, table football and a pool table. The cinema room is a wonderful addition. The swimming pool is great and was plenty big enough for us all. The house is superbly well equipped, with just about everything you could think of laid on. It is particularly well stocked with equipment for babies/young children. Doug & Jenny are great hosts and we would love to come back sometime soon!

  15. Sara Osbaldeston says:

I would just like to say thank you for allowing us to stay in your fabulous villa, it was truly a home from home – comfy bedrooms, well stocked kitchen and lovely areas to eat and relax. We have stayed in numerous villas over the years and unanimously agreed that yours was the best one we had ever stayed in. Please thank Doug for his help in getting us settled in, and thanks to you also for your recommendations for events while we were there, the wine tasting and Jazz festival were great fun!

Thanks again for all your help, and your lovely house!

  16. The Lugg Family says:

Absolutely fantastic. Stayed for two weeks and it still wasn’t long enough. Keeping the kids entertained was easy, the pool was warm and yet refreshing in the sun and when we needed shady spots to cool down the games room and numerous toys/games in the house were excellent. Jenny and Doug were great hosts and our children enjoyed playing with Darcie who was keen to show of her tree climbing skills! Would definately recommend this to any large groups or families. Thank you very much.

  17. “We had a huge family gathering at Bernisson- very precious family time and the holiday could not have been more perfect for us all. The house was lovely, and really well kitted out for kids especially, and the flexibility of the rooms meant that we could arrange the house as we wanted it. The kids loved the pool and the grounds and the views from the house are spectacular. Doug and Jenny were on hand if needed and were very welcoming. We all want to come back and I would highly recommend this house to anyone for a family holiday in the sun! Thank you”

  18. Family Haymes says:

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at Bernisson with 5 adults and 4 children. Everything was perfect. The house was amazing – very spacious and extremely child friendly with lots of books and toys to help keep the children entertained. The outdoor space was brilliant too, with the pool being the highlight for the children. The weather was beautiful and the only bad thing I can think of is that we had to come home! Jenny and Doug were brilliant hosts and really made you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. I want to go back!!

  19. The Deakin family! says:

We stayed at Bernisson for my Dad’s 60th Birthday in May 2011. There were 3 children and 6 adults. We had an absolute ball, the holiday was perfect in every way. Jenny and Doug are amazing hosts and made us all feel so welcome. As hosts, they manage to achieve that brilliant balance of letting you get on with your holiday and have your own space while being there if you need anything at all. nothing was too much trouble for them. The children in our group aged from 1 to 4 and the house was really child friendly which made our holiday so much easier. The house itself is really stylish, very comfortable, big enough for three (noisy!) families and we all cried when we left!! Thank you for a brilliant holiday and we will be back.

  20. Iain Phillips says:

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at Bernisson.

We went ‘en famille’ to celebrate a birthday, so there were eight of us including a toddler. The house had everything we needed and the views of the surrounding countryside are beautiful. We really enjoyed eating and relaxing in the garden with a glass of wine during our stay. The table-tennis and pool table provided the family with plenty of amusement. It was still a little too cold for a swim as it was early March, but the pool looked very inviting and we look forward to trying it out on the next visit!

Monsegur is within walking distance where you can enjoy a quiet beer or coffee and the local supermarket had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend finding the time to have a hot chocolate at the Chocolaterie des Lys where Philippe and Veronique will extend you a very warm welcome.

Jenny and Doug are lovely, we couldn’t have wished for more and I am sure we will be back again soon.

  21. Lindsay says:

Myself and 11 friends stayed here for 4 days to celebrate our pal’s upcoming wedding and we all agreed Bernisson was fabulous! The surrounding scenery from every view was stunning. Each room has lovely decor and the gardens are gorgeous – especially popular were the home grown veg! There were so many places to sit and catch the sun for breakfast, lunch and dinner – and I think we used them all. The place we spent most of our time was by the pool – perfect. We will all be back again!

  22. Amy says:

We had a fantastic holiday at Bernisson. We were a group of 6 adults with 3 babies/toddlers and the house had everything we needed and more. It had plenty of toys for the little ones to play with and enough space for them to run around. The house was very well equiped and couldn’t have been more perfect for our family holiday.

  23. Katie Greene says:

We stayed at Bernisson for a long weekend and were blown away with how beautiful the countryside is there. It was lovely to sit outside, enjoy the views and relax by the pool. The place has amazing sized rooms which fitted 14 of us perfectly. Would recommend this to adults or families and would definitely stay again. The owners were very helpful and we had a fantastic stay.

  24. I’ve stayed at Bernisson three times now, and never get over how pretty the place is. I’ve enjoying cycling around the local towns and enjoyed a nice quiet beer or coffee in the cafes. I’d really recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a comfortable, cosy and relaxing home away from home.
